Youth Therapist

Our client is seeking a Youth Therapist to join their growing team. As a Youth Therapist, you will be responsible for providing direct clinical services and related activities to youth within Lancaster County. This is a county facility that houses youth (up to age 18) that are involved in the criminal justice system on a short-term basis and will reside there until their charges are processed. They are subsequently released to their family, guardian, treatment facility or other location. Youth may reside at the facility for a few hours or typical a few days and a small number may reside there for longer periods of time.

Job Duties

• Provide initial intake and screening of youth at time of admission
• Perform screening on youth who are at risk for suicide and other harmful behaviors to determine the youth’s fitness for confinement, appropriate mental health supervision and/or mental health restrictions
• Evaluate youth who are at risk for suicide and other harmful behaviors for possible hospitalization
• Provide individual and group sessions (psychoeducational) for youths during their time at the facility
• Coordinate with juvenile justice workers and other relevant staff regarding concerns and status of youths
• Coordinate with youth’s family member/s as necessary regarding their status and services outside of the facility
• Attend and/or participate in agency All-Staff Meetings
• Assist and participate in clinical program planning, development, and implementation as requested by the Director or other leadership staff
• Record keeping for the youth seen at the facility will be completed on the electronic medical system provided by the County
• Provide quarterly reports to Director
• Consults with the Director and other relevant staff appropriately and cooperatively
• Resolves conflicts with manager/supervisor/staff in an active and positive fashion to promote a healthy working relationship
• Provides supervision to provisionally licensed staff or other staff as needed
• Performs duties as assigned

Requirements

• Master’s degree from an accredited university in a Human Service program which provided preparation for professional counseling
• Licensed Independent or Provisional Licensed Mental Health Practitioner in the State of Nebraska
• Previous experience in the Criminal Justice System preferred
• Demonstrates effective written or verbal communication skills; clearly conveys ideas and information in a professional manner in all documents and correspondence
• Proficient basic computer skills and familiarization with MS Office
• Familiarity with generally accepted concepts, techniques, and procedures of behavioral health involvement with youth and preferably those involved in the juvenile justice system
• Capable of functioning as a team member including skills of cooperation, consultation, and appropriate referral
• Implements objective decision-making skills and analyzes available information available
• Learns and adjusts well to new methods, conditions, situations, or changes
• Organizes work to use time effectively and efficiently; sets up own daily work schedule based upon work goals; follows through and completes work assignments in a timely manner
