Description

Habitat For Humanity of Omaha is seeking a motivated, detail-oriented Accounting Intern to support our Finance team with Accounts Payable (AP) tasks. This part-time internship provides an excellent opportunity for students or early-career professionals interested in gaining hands-on experience in nonprofit accounting, and is ideal for someone who is eager to learn about nonprofit accounting and develop essential financial skills. This position will assist in processing invoices, managing vendor communications, and supporting the overall financial operations of the organization. 

Requirements

Key Responsibilities:

  • Invoice Processing: Assist in reviewing, coding, and entering vendor invoices into the accounting system. Ensure invoices are processed accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Vendor Communication: Support communication with vendors regarding payment inquiries, discrepancies, and account updates. Help resolve any issues related to outstanding invoices or payments.
  • Payment Processing: Assist in preparing and issuing payments for approved invoices via check, ACH, or other payment methods. Ensure proper documentation and approval for payments.
  • Reconciliation Support: Help reconcile vendor statements and track outstanding balances. Assist in identifying and resolving discrepancies between vendor records and internal accounts.
  • Documentation and Filing: Maintain organized electronic and physical files for AP transactions. Ensure all records are accurately filed and accessible for auditing and reporting purposes.
  • Special Projects: Contribute to special projects and reporting as needed, providing support for accounts payable analysis or other financial tasks as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in data entry.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and accounting software, NetSuite experience a plus.
  • Good organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Other Requirements:
    • A strong interest in nonprofit accounting and finance.
    • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive financial information.
    • A proactive, problem-solving attitude and willingness to learn.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous internship or work experience in accounting or finance is a plus.
  • Knowledge of basic accounting principles, including accounts payable and general ledger concepts.

Position Details:

  • Work Schedule: Approximately 10 hours per week. Flexible scheduling available to  accommodate academic commitments.
  • Duration: This is a temporary internship position with an expected duration through May 31, 2025, with the possibility of extension based on performance and organizational needs.
  • Work Environment: This internship is strictly in-person. We offer a collaborative and supportive environment where you will gain valuable, real-world experience in nonprofit finance.
