The Railway Educational Bureau (REB) is looking for a full-time graphic designer to work in our Omaha office. The REB publishes books along with training and reference materials used primarily in the North American railroad industry. We are looking for someone to help design, layout, and update our books, advertising, and other promotional materials, as well as produce and schedule our email marketing blasts in our Omaha office. This person will work on a mix of projects that allow for creativity as well as making changes to existing products. This opportunity is ideal for someone to take the next step in their career where they can make a long-lasting impact. Relocation reimbursement is not available.

 

Main responsibilities include:

  • Produce high quality artwork for print and digital use
  • Design and format books, promotional materials and other items as needed
  • Manage projects through their entire lifespan
  • Produce email marketing blasts (will train)
  • Design books from the beginning of the layout process
  • Prepare existing project files to be reprinted, including making changes as needed
  • Work with commercial printing companies to get quotes for printing jobs
  • Check for updates to federal railroad regulations daily (will train)
  • Work with proofreader to make edits as needed
  • Work with instructional designers and authors as needed
  • Scan and enhance images as needed
  • Organize digital files and physical media
  • Juggle and manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Help with incidental duties in the office as needed, such as answering phones on occasion

 

Qualifications:

  • Possess a solid understanding of the CMYK printing process and RGB colorspace
  • Confident knowledge of image resolution and how it applies in print and web products
  • Ability to take ownership of our design and printing needs
  • Ability to collaborate as needed
  • Have 2-5 years graphic design experience
  • Experience using the Adobe Design Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, & InDesign)
  • Experience creating email blasts with Post-Up is desirable (will train)
  • Experience with Microsoft Office suite
  • Creative ability and good eye for design
  • Flexibility to work well in a team environment and on your own
  • Good interpersonal communication skills
  • Work portfolio

 

Nice to haves:

  • Knowledge of the railroad industry
  • Experience in commercial printing or prepress department
  • Experience with multimedia
  • Writing skills
  • Experience working with proofreaders and light proofreading skills
  • Sourcing commercial printing companies (on occasion)

 

Hours:

Monday – Thursday 8:00 – 5:00

Fridays 8:00 – 4:00

 

No travel requirements are anticipated.
