Position Summary

Under direct supervisor, this position is responsible to perform field/surveying duties or general

labor duties.Under direct supervisor, this position is responsible to perform general clerical duties.

 

Education

• Required - High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED)

• Required - Students must be currently attending college and/or enrolled in college classes

for the fall of the year in which the summer program is taking place. Proof of enrollment

may be requested.

 

Licenses, Certifications and/or Testing

• Required - Have and maintain a valid driver’s license Upon Hire

• Required - Summer Student Work Program Guidelines:

- Students must be at least 18 years of age by the time they begin employment.

- The expected work schedule for the Summer Student Work Program is 40 hours per

week.

- If possible, time-off requests should be presented during the interview to ensure proper

coverage. All requests must be approved and requested as far in advance as possible.

- The openings are Temporary Full-Time. Summer Student Workers are paid for time

worked. All time-off will be unpaid, including holidays.

- The Summer Student Work Program will begin on a specified date each year and will

conclude on specified date each year. No summer employment will be extended beyond

the end date determined each year.

- Students selected for the Summer Student Work Program are required to pass a

background check and a pre-employment drug screen as a condition of employment.

Upon Hire

• Required - Employee(s) in this position are covered under the Department of

Transportation Drug and Alcohol testing provisions. This includes post-offer, random,

post-accident, reasonable suspicion, follow-up, and return to duty testing. Upon Hire

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Strong organizational skills; personal initiative, attention to thoroughness, accuracy and

details.

• Ability to work with general supervision.

• Knowledge of the District’s service area preferred.

 

Essential Functions

Field/Survey Worker:

• Drive District vehicle in accordance with established District Driving and Safety policies

and procedures, as well as strictly following traffic laws and ordnances.

• Communicate with and assist customers, co-workers, and management professionally,

regardless of provocation.

- Reads and records information using a hand-held device. Must be able to complete the

• assigned route daily.

- Report all unusual conditions, events or occurrences immediately to supervisor.

 

Clerical / Engineering:

• Composes and sends out routine letters.

• Maintain general department files.

• Answer phone lines and greet customers professionally.

• Receive, separate and distribute department mail including faxes.

• Provide clerical support for the department including copying and data entry.

• Communicate with and assist customers, co-workers, and management professionally,

regardless of provocation.

 

General Labor:

• Drive District vehicle in accordance with established District Driving and Safety policies

and procedures, as well as strictly following traffic laws and ordnances.

• Communicate with and assist customers, co-workers, and management professionally,

regardless of provocation.

- Receive, stock, and issue materials, tools, special equipment, and supplies in accordance

with established procedures.

- Maintain neat and orderly work area, warehouse and storage yard.

- Perform routine cleaning of District facilities to include, but not limited to, dust/polish

and move furniture/equipment; floor care (i.e.) vacuuming, sweeping, washing, waxing

and buffing floors and stairs; cleaning appliances, bathroom/locker rooms;

cleaning/dusting light fixtures and replacing light bulbs; and emptying trash containers.

Assist in ensuring the interior and exterior appearance of District facilities are clean and

well maintained, hazards are promptly and correctly addressed (i.e. debris, broken glass,

spills.)

- Assist in maintain District buildings, garages and grounds by performing a variety of

scheduled and as needed general maintenance.

- Operate a variety of equipment, machines, tools and power tools to complete assigned

tasks, while complying with safety standards and ensuring District assets are maintained

and used effectively and efficiently.

 

Required for All Jobs

• Perform a variety of other duties as assigned

• Understand and comply with all District policies and procedures

 

Physical and Environmental Requirements

• Field: Work inside and outside in all weather conditions and terrain for extended periods

of time.
