As a key leader within the Institute for Population Health, the North Omaha Community Engagement Director leads in developing and maintaining strong reciprocal partnerships with community-based organizations and other stakeholders serving North Omaha. The Director oversees direct engagement with the North Omaha community including community-based navigation services and the Highlander Children’s Safety Center. The Director is primarily based at Creighton at the Highlander and manages its daily operations. They maintain a strong working relationship with Highlander leasing partners and fellow tenants. Additionally, the Director serves as the IPH conduit between Creighton University students, staff, and faculty and the North Omaha community.

  • Program and Facilities Operations Oversight
    • Oversee the delivery of IPH-specific services at the Highlander, ensuring high quality programming including but not limited to: Highlander Children’s Safety Center and community navigation services.
    • Effectively manage space use by Creighton and community programs, ensuring user adherence to relevant policies. Provide guidance and oversight to Creighton students, staff, faculty who use Highlander space to conduct approved activities.
    • Ensure compliance with the Highlander tenant agreement and serve as a conduit between Creighton University, the IPH, and leasing partner.
  • Partnership Development and Management
    • Internal partnerships
      • Recruit Creighton staff and faculty to meaningfully use the Highlander space, with special attention to opportunities that serve and work with the North Omaha community.
      • Maintain superuser agreements and provide support and oversight to recurring users of the Highlander space.
      • Elevate awareness and impact of activities at the Highlander and in the community through various communications, meetings and/or events.
    • External partnerships
      • Identify opportunities for meaningful collaborations with community-based organizations that are in alignment with the vision and mission of the Institute for Population Health.
      • Execute community engagement strategies as determined by the IPH.
      • Serve as the Creighton and IPH representative in relevant community working groups, forums, and task forces.
      • Represent the values of the IPH and Creighton University at all times when engaging with external partners.
    • Leadership, Staff Supervision, and Performance Management
      • Provide team management and leadership for select IPH personnel, including all human resources related responsibilities (hiring, onboarding, terminating, performance reviews, etc.).
      • Provide day to day direction and supervision for the team’s work and assignments.
      • Oversee all work/study, student volunteers, and community volunteers.
      • Serve as a key member of the IPH leadership team, participating in all required meetings.

Qualifications:

This position requires a Master’s level degree such as MPH, MBA, MPA, MSW, or other similar degrees with management, planning and organization skills They should have 5-8 increasingly responsible years of experience preferably in a university health professional school, nonprofit, or community-based organization. Must also have 5+ years working in the North Omaha geographic service area, with proven positive relationships with community agencies and populations served. Additional qualifications that are strongly preferred:

  • Experience building trusted relationships in diverse communities, and with community-based organizations
  • Adaptable to the needs and expectations of a wide range of stakeholders from the university and the community
  • Has a deep understanding of community needs and existing health disparities locally and nationally in order to partner in developing sustainable solutions.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

This position requires skills in managing people and programs, strategic planning, budgeting, operations/facilities management, and have the ability to assess issues and develop solutions. The following skills would also be preferred:

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, a passionate and experienced communicator with excellent interpersonal and multidisciplinary project skills.
  • Action-oriented, adaptable, community-centered and innovative approach to community engagement. 
  • Mission-driven and self-directed; can exercise independent judgement and decision-making authority and maintain confidentiality and manage sensitive information in an appropriate manner. 
  • Ability to build relationships and develop high-performing teams and set and achieve strategic objectives. 
  • Ability to cultivate existing relationships and establish new relationships. 
  • Strong organizational skills and a demonstrated ability to manage a number of complex, multifaceted relationships and tasks simultaneously are required.
  • Foster an inclusive working environment that upholds Creighton’s core values and demonstrates commitment to valuing diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Ability to work independently and cooperatively, with an elevated level of initiative, and as part of a team.
  • Ability to effectively supervise, coach, and mentor staff.
  • Experience with developing and managing budgets.
  • Experience with MS Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and other software as required.
