Creighton University is seeking an experienced and versatile photographer to join our marketing and communications team as the University Photographer.

In this role, you’ll be responsible for capturing, editing, and delivering high-quality photography—ranging from marketing shoots and event coverage to studio portraits and lifestyle imagery—for use across social media, digital platforms, paid campaigns, etc. Much of this work will involve photographing college students in authentic campus settings to showcase the Creighton experience. We’re looking for someone with a strong background in marketing-focused photography, an eye for emotion and detail, and the ability to bring Creighton’s mission and brand to life through imagery. The ideal candidate is audience-focused and skilled at translating key messages into compelling visual content that supports strategic marketing goals. As part of a collaborative creative team, you’ll partner with art directors, marketing strategists, and content strategists to capture photography that drives engagement on social media, enriches the website experience, and visually strengthens our brand across all platforms.

Key Responsibilities

  • Capture compelling, marketing-focused photography that conveys emotion.
    • Create and edit high-quality photography for use across web, social media, print, and digital platforms.
    • Plan and execute shoots—including location setup, lighting, and equipment selection—to ensure strong
visual results that align with strategic goals.
    • Direct and engage with subjects to capture authentic imagery in both posed and candid settings.
    • Edit and prepare images using post-processing tools to maintain consistency with brand standards.
    • Collaborate with team members to deliver imagery that supports key messaging and campaigns.
  • Project Communication
    • Communicate timelines, shoot logistics, and project needs clearly with team members and collaborators.
Collaborate effectively with team members and campus partners, demonstrating flexibility and openness to
      creative direction.
    • Be available and responsive before and during shoots to confirm details and support coordination.
    • Demonstrate consistent, proficient use of the team’s project management system to manage deadlines, share
updates, and communicate effectively with colleagues and campus partners. Daily engagement is expected.
  • Digital Asset Organization
    • Select and share top photography highlights with campus partners via PhotoShelter.
    • Organize and archive images using metadata, consistent tagging, and clear descriptions for easy search
      and retrieval.
    • Back up raw image files to the job server to ensure long-term storage.
  • Technical Readiness
    • Maintain and prep photography equipment before and after shoots to ensure optimal performance and
      reliability.
    • Keep the photography studio clean, organized and ready for daily use.
    • Stay current on photography trends, techniques, and equipment to continually enhance creative output
      and visual impact.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in photography or a related visual arts field, with a strong emphasis on marketing or commercial photography
    preferred.
  • 3+ years of experience in marketing-focused photography for digital and print platforms
  • Video capture and editing experience is a plus.
  • Experience collaborating with art directors and creative teams preferred.
  • Experience using project management systems.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Creative and curious mindset with a proactive approach to visual storytelling.
  • Expert in using professional camera equipment and related gear; proficient in Adobe Creative Suite (including Lightroom and
Photoshop) with strong skills in photo editing, retouching, and asset preparation.
  • Highly organized, self-motivated, and accountable, with the ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, and
maintain attention to detail under pressure.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to direct subjects and capture authentic, engaging imagery.
  • Skilled in following established workflows and maintaining consistency and efficiency in handling visual assets.
  • Ability to generate original photography concepts and stay current on visual trends and industry best practices.
  • Solid understanding of digital marketing and advertising principles, with experience working within brand guidelines in complex
    organizations.
