Director of Student Outreach, Support, and Intervention

This position is responsible for directing a range of student services and outreach programs focused on supporting student basic needs, mental health, and community standards. The Director will serve as the lead facilitator for the Student Intervention Team and the lead Civil Rights Investigator. The Director will provide leadership and supervision to the collegeâ??s counseling and case management services, and to the student conduct coordinator. The Director is responsible for strategic initiatives focused on prevention education and supporting studentsâ?? holistic needs.

Job Duties

  • Provide leadership and supervision to the Clinical Coordinator, Mental Health Practitioner, and Student Conduct Coordinator. Delegates tasks, provides feedback, resolves work problems, communicates job expectations, evaluates performance, and provides opportunities for professional development.
  • Serves as a resource and primary liaison for the college community on issues of sexual health and mental health, which may include classroom presentations, curriculum and resource material development, committee membership, or staff and faculty presentations.
  • Serve as the main conduct appeals officer and the secondary conduct officer.
  • Serve as the lead Civil Rights Investigator and the lead facilitator for the Student Intervention Team.
  • Responsible for overseeing strategic initiatives to support and advance student conduct practices, effective case management, and the usage of mental health services.
  • Serve as the main contact for Pottawattamie County Public Health
  • Responsible for the fiscal management of the Reiver Relief Fund and Rockyâ??s Emergency Pantry
  • Provide training to and consult with faculty and staff on how to support high-risk students.
  • Assist students who are in crisis, agitated, and facing personal dilemmas. Utilizes various techniques to de-escalate students and connect them with appropriate staff and resources.  
  • Responsible for compliance related education in the following areas: alcohol and drug use, sexual violence awareness, hazing awareness. This includes serving as the point of contact to all third-party vendors providing such education.
  • Collaborate with other Student Life and Success teams to create and support initiatives that foster student success and a sense of belonging.

Qualifications

  • Ability to pass a background check
Education:  
  • Mastersâ?? degree required in social work, clinical mental health counseling, or equivalent.
Preferred Certificates:
  • Civil Rights Investigator Training
  • Structured Interview for Violence Risk Assessment
Preferred Skills: 
  • 3 years of experience in an applicable role; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Conflict management techniques and ability to calmly and effectively communicate with upset students, parents, and stakeholders.  
  • Familiarity with clinical mental health counseling frameworks, including cognitive behavioral therapy and solution-focused brief therapy. Licensure as a clinician is not required.
  • Ability to balance the human relations, policies, and task aspects of the position.  
  • Must possess strong written and oral communication skills.  
  • Ability to successfully and diplomatically work with co-workers to achieve common goals is critical. 
  • Experience that demonstrates student-centered decision-making skills.
  • Self-starter with the ability to perform with little or no direct supervision.
  • Regular, prompt & reliable attendance.
