Nebraska Medicine is looking for a dedicated and skilled Advanced Practice Provider (Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner) to be part of our collaborative cardiac surgery operating room team. This is a fantastic opportunity to work with a team of seven PAs and six surgeons, focusing primarily on assisting in surgeries for patients with complex cardiac conditions. You'll provide crucial support in the operating room, with a manageable balance of on-call duties as part of a supportive and rotating schedule.
Ideal Candidate Qualifications:
At least two years of experience in adult cardiac surgery in the operating room as an APP.
Familiarity with the Maquet Hemopro Endoscopic Harvesting System is a plus.
Acute Care Certification is required for Nurse Practitioners.
Location: Nebraska Medical Center | Nebraska Medicine Omaha, NE
Shift Details:
Full-time position, 1.0 FTE
Flexible scheduling based on case requirements, Monday-Friday
Rotating on-call duties (1:8 rotation, including nights, weekends, and holidays)
Occasional call for organ procurement

Duties: APP - Cardiac Surgery Operating Room
The APP, with collaboration of a supervising physician, will care for the patient starting in the pre-operative setting through surgery until hand-off to the CVICU. The candidate will assist in advanced surgical procedures, including but not limited to, coronary artery bypass grafting with endoscopic saphenous vein and radial artery conduit harvesting, valve repair/replacement including TAVRs and Mitraclips, complex aortic cases, heart and lung transplants, temporary and durable VAD implantation, redo cardiac operations, ECMO cannulation/decannulation and organ procurement on DCD donors utilizing various procurement technologies such as normothermic regional perfusion (NRP) and extracorpeal perfusion and transport devices. Call schedule to include nights, weekends, and holidays.

Physician Assistant
Master's degree from an ARC-PA approved physician assistant program or bachelor's degree with ten years of current active Physician Assistant experience and approval from the Director of the Office of Advanced Practice or a bachelor's degree with less than ten years current active experience and a signed a written agreement to obtain a Master's degree from an ARC-PA approved Physician Assistant program within three years from date of transfer or hire and approval from the Director of the Office of Advanced Practice
Certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA)
Currently licensed as a Physician Assistant in Nebraska or compact state or ability to obtain license prior to applying for privileges
OR
Nurse Practitioner
Master's degree, or higher, in nursing from an accredited college of nursing
Currently licensed as Registered Nurse in Nebraska or compact state
Currently licensed as Advanced Practice Registered Nurse Practitioner (APRN) in Nebraska or compact state or ability to obtain license prior to applying for privileges
Appropriate certification based on position, department and population served:
Adult Acute Care (AGACNP-BC, ACNPC-AG)
General
Ability to function with autonomy and able to make independent decisions while functioning as part of a comprehensive team
Ability to effectively communicate in verbal and written forms
Ability to provide critical thinking and analytical skills
Efficient use of information systems, data processing systems, telecommunication devices, office equipment, and audiovisual teaching/education resources
Ability to comprehend and follow policy, procedure, guidelines and protocols
Flexibility and dedication to team involvement and supporting organizational goals
Familiar with patient care equipment as appropriate to specialty area
Knowledge of health care policy and societal factors affecting the delivery of care
Willingness to perform additional designated tasks as assigned within Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner scope of practice
Ability to complete long surgical cases without breaks, to include prolonged standing, manual retraction, lifting of patients with assistance and other associated physical tasks
Federal Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) licensure
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from an American Heart Association endorsed program
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification from an American Heart Association endorsed program
Preferred Qualifications: APP - Cardiac Surgery Operating Room
Prior experience and competence as an APP first assist in the operating room for a variety of cardiac cases including heart and lung transplant as well as mechanical circulatory support devices
Proficient endoscopic conduit harvesting skills to include harvesting of saphenous vein and radial artery
