Summary of Responsibilities: 

The Building Engineer is responsible for assisting the facilities manager with all aspects of building, equipment, and grounds maintenance. Also responsible for performing other duties as assigned by manager.

 

Essential Duties and Functions:

  1. Inspects, maintains, and repairs all physical plant machinery, heating, cooling, piping, and electrical systems and prepares written records of maintenance performed.
  2. Checks and records appropriate information for the following equipment:
    • Reverse Osmosis System (periodically).
    • HVAC and Oven Filters (periodically).
  3. Notify facilities manager of any problems or changes in equipment operation as the result of periodic checks as listed above.
  4. Inspects, adjusts, and repairs miscellaneous production equipment including autoclaves, centrifuges, pumps, boilers, filler/capper machines, and labeling equipment as requested.
  5. Inspects, tests, cleans and may repair fire equipment, alarms, switches and sensors.
  6. Assists with development, construction and installation of new automation or production equipment.
  7. Replaces, repairs, and adjusts HVAC components and replaces filters.
  8. Constructs and repairs building structure, walls, floors, ceilings, cabinets, and furniture.
  9. Maintains lawns, shrubs and trees on property and removes snow from walks and drives.
  10. Acts as a backup to the assigned building engineer for the operation and maintenance of the security system.

 

Position Requirements:

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum 2-3 years maintenance experience in a manufacturing setting.
  • Must be dependable, well organized, possess good interpersonal skills, and be able to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

 

Technical Competencies:

  • Knowledge of and ability to operate machines, equipment, and computer software.
  • Ability to read and interpret blue prints, schematics, etc.
  • Ability to perform mathematical calculations.
  • Ability to verbally communicate and interact with others in a coherent and concise manner.
  • Ability to present technical information in written format.
  • Ability to manage two or more tasks at one time.
  • Ability to anticipate potential problems.
  • Ability to analyze existing problems and recommend corrective action.

 

Work Environment/Travel Demands:

The Building Engineer is subject to both environmental conditions: activities occur inside and outside. Exposure to outside weather conditions. Occasional short durations to cold temperatures inside walk-in coolers. Exposure to noise, vibration. Exposure to hazards includes a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, electrical current, working on scaffolding and high places, exposure to high heat or exposure to chemicals. Exposures to hazards are minimized using administrative controls, engineering controls, and PPE (Personal Protective Equipment). Exposure to atmospheric conditions: one or more of the following conditions that affect the respiratory system or the skin- fumes, odors, dust, mists, gases, or poor ventilation. Travel demands for this position are estimated up to 5%. If travel is required, this travel may include customer visits, events/trade shows, and completion of presentations primarily throughout Domestic US or International regions. Employees must comply with all travel recommendations regarding “safe travel” according to company policies and guidelines, and all federal, state, local, and international orders.

 

Physical and Mental Demands:

Medium work exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 5 pounds of force constantly to move objects. This also includes standing for up to two and a half hours consecutively, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, reaching, stooping, fingering, and grasping. Expressing and receiving detailed information through written and oral communication. Also has an ability to make sound, appropriate, and prompt decisions within the guidelines of the role.
