Position Summary | A Postdoctoral Research Associate position is available in the Department of Emergency Medicine at the University of Nebraska Medical Center. A M.D., Ph.D. or equivalent in Medicine/Physiology or related field is required. The research focuses mainly on the regulatory role of the peripheral nervous system in peripheral tissues (such as myocardium and skeletal muscle) in pathophysiological conditions including heart failure, diabetes, and ischemia-reperfusion injury, supported by NIH funding. The successful applicant will be expected to master electrophysiological techniques (including patch clamp) and intricate surgical procedures, especially surgical coronary artery ligation-induced heart failure, in vivo local microinjection into peripheral ganglia, and implantation of optogenetic probe for optogenetic stimulation and radio-telemeters for the ECG and blood pressure recording. This position will be involved in the design of experimental protocols; collection, analysis and interpretation of data; preparation of oral and written scientific reports, such as presentation of results at local, state, and national meetings; composition of scientific manuscripts for submission to journals and writing grant applications; and interdepartmental seminars, journal clubs and local and national scientific societies. This position will also be expected to incorporate previous skills and knowledge into the evolution of experimental designs, methodology, data interpretations and pursuit of scientific goals. Previous experience performing in cardiovascular and neurophysiological experiments is preferred.
